Hello everyone, my name is Sigmund Freud. I was born in Austria, more specifically Freiberg on May 6th 1856. You might be wondering why I am speaking English if I am from Austria, well the answer is simple, I am a great scholar and I am proficient in German, French, Italian, Hebrew, English, Spanish, Greek, and Latin. I know that seems overwhelming but it was easy for me to pick up as I love reading and am very comfortable with languages. In 1882 I started researching cerebral anatomy at the Vienna General Hospital. I worked everywhere in the hospital but working with Theodor Meynert in his psychiatric clinic led me to want to work with patients more regularly. In '86 I quit working at the hospital and joined a private practice to specialize in nervous disorders. Shortly after I married my beautiful wife Martha, and we had 6 lovely children together.
Once I was in my private practice I decided to help patients with their disorders by using hypnosis. I quickly realized that I could get better results if I would just let people speak freely about anything they wished. I coined this "free association" and then started analyzing patients dreams. Dreams, in my opinion, are full of the problems that we face in real life so they should be looked at and used to help the patients. I then formed my Oedipus Complex theory. I then formed the Wednesday Psychological Society which, in my and many other experts opinion was the beginning of the psychoanalytic movement. And not to brag, but in 1910 I founded the International Psychoanalytic Association, which is still around today. I have reviewed your textbook and I think that the section about the three developmental questions is very interesting, on pages 30 and 31.
This is just a brief taste of my life. If you would like to know more then I suggest you look at the following websites: http://www.iep.utm.edu/freud/ http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aso/databank/entries/bhfreu.html http://psychology.about.com/od/sigmundfreud/p/sigmund_freud.htm http://www.freudfile.org/
I have reviewed your textbook and I think that the section about the three developmental questions is very interesting, on pages 30 and 31. The question that I find most intriguing is the critical versus sensitive time periods. Through my work I have discovered that early childhood experiences are crucial to for emotional and cognitive development.
